Books for Kids

Books for Kids, established in 1991, offers an opportunity for libraries and communities to provide new books to children who may not have any of their own. Public, school, academic, and special libraries participate in this worthwhile project which takes place each fall prior to the winter holiday season. Books are collected and then distributed within a library's own community or sent to distributing libraries for them to give out.

Garden State Children's Book Awards

The Garden State Children’s Book Awards were established in 1977 to honor books for elementary age readers. The awards, voted on by the children of New Jersey, are given to both authors and illustrators in four categories: Easy to Read, Easy to Read Series, Fiction for grades 2 – 5, and Non-Fiction for grades 2 – 5. The committee meets three times a year to draw up a ballot, tabulate votes, and prepare for the GSBA Luncheon at the annual NJLA conference. For more information regarding GSCBA, visit their website or view their guidelines.

Performer's Showcase

Performer's Showcase was specifically created to function as a venue for librarians to preview quality entertainment to promote both literacy development and summer reading for youth. Through our annual showcases, the committee recruits and enlists the talents of a wide variety of artists including storytellers, magicians, creative theater, and nature/science specialists. The immediate goal of Performer's Showcase is to foster and promote resource sharing of performers and programming information throughout our state. Beginning in 2005, the showcase will be presented on an annual basis each fall.

For an archive of performers from past showcases, 2002-2008, view this LIST.
