NJLA-LGBTI Roundtable Minutes

November 20, 2008

Members attending: Enola Romano, Saleena Davidson, Allan Kleiman

Old Business:

We are looking for a coordinator for NJ Pride Festival in Asbury Park, June 7, 2009. If you think that you’d like to volunteer for this please contact Enola.

We have been discussing whether or not to plan additional Professional Development Programs. Items to be considered when planning include interest, topics, audience and other factors such as how much time librarians can take to attend programs.

New Business:

Conference: Proposal Update: “State of Publishing LGBTI Picture Books Today” incorporating Sarah Brannen, author of Uncle Bobby’s Wedding and Bobbie Combs, founder of Two Lives Publishing, editor, and author of 123 A Family Counting Book & ABC A Family Alphabet Book.

Wiki Page:

Ideas were gathered for what links to have on our wiki page. The following topic headings were all agreed on: Collection Development Resources, Archival Collections & Special Library Collections, Programming Information, and General to include links to state and national sites like (ALA GLBT-RT). Note: We did not discuss who would be identifying these links etc.

The Infolink Diversity committee is planning a workshop on serving the GLBTI Community and although no exact dates have yet been set, members discussed programming ideas. The idea that everyone agreed upon was “Breaking Through Barriers/Obstacles, Serving Your LGBTIQ Community”

Good of the Order:

National Diversity in Libraries Conference, “From Groundwork to Action,” July 12-14, 2010, Princeton NJ.  Contact: Trevor Dawes of Princeton University at 609-258-3231.

Upcoming Meetings:

Dates for future meetings were set: an electronic meeting for Jan 22 from 10-12, and a live meeting on Mar 12 and May 21 from 10-12 at the South Brunswick Public Library.

Respectfully submitted,

Saleena Davidson, Secretary
