Garden State Teen Book Awards

Timeline of Events

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

If you would like to volunteer to be an assigned reader you can help determine what books will make the GSTBA ballot. Sign-up at the September or October Young Adult Section meeting or contact either of the Members-at-Large. Readers must be a member of NJLA and the YA Section, but do not have to be members of the Garden State Teen Book Award Committee. Complete information for readers can be found here.

NOVEMBER

Volunteer readers will receive an email with assigned titles. Begin reading!

JANUARY

All ballots and/or vote totals should be sent to Laura Leonard (leonard@bccls.org) before the posted deadline (usually the 2nd Saturday of January).

Winners of the GSTBA are announced at the January Young Adult Section meeting, are posted to NJYAC and YA Section listservs, and are officially added to the NJLA website and wiki.

JANUARY-APRIL

Deliberations and discussions of the books for the three GSTBA nomination categories (for the upcoming year’s ballot) will take place at scheduled Young Adult Section meetings. If you are an assigned reader and cannot attend, you must email your comments/reviews to a member of the YA Section Executive Board or other appropriate proxy.

APRIL/MAY/JUNE

The new ballot will be distributed at the NJLA Conference, posted to the NJLA Young Adult Section wiki, and distributed through various listservs and local news sources. Reproducible copies of the past winners brochures and ballot titles with annotations are also posted on the NJLA wiki.

Begin encouraging your teens to read and vote. Find some promotional tools here.

MAY-DECEMBER

Continue to encourage your teens to read and vote.  Be sure to get your votes submitted before the posted deadline (usually the 2nd Saturday of January)!
